1. READ about how Jack’s eyes were opened
“I have seen the light of Christ is shining in dark places. Specifically, I’ve had the opportunity to serve the homeless and those with addictions through a community-focused nonprofit in Chicago. Some friends from church got us connected, and it really opened my eyes to things happening in the world of homelessness. And now to see the change in people’s lives today, in comparison to years ago, is humbling and gratifying.”
2. REFLECT on how God wants to open your eyes
Where is God opening your eyes to His light shining in the darkness? In you? In the world around you?
3. LISTEN to “Compassion Hymn” by Keith and Kristyn Getty
4. PRAY God’s light-filled words over your life
Lord, deliver us from evil. You said in your Word that we should “feed the hungry, and help those in trouble, and if we do, then our light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around us will be as bright as noon.” (Isaiah 58:10). Deliver us from apathy and open our eyes to see hurting people as you see them. And to be your light in the darkness. Amen.
5. Before You Go – ENJOY this uplifting story about homelessness
Chris Gardner (below, right) was homeless and slept in shelters and restrooms. Inspired by a well-dressed stock broker, Chris cold-called financial companies until one of them gave him an unpaid internship. He ultimately became a millionaire, and his inspiring journey was portrayed in the movie The Pursuit of Happyness with Will Smith.
