Ruthie

1. READ about Ruthie’s gratitude for “small” things

“A few small things that God provided for me in the past 24 hours that gave me big joy: a fun evening out with old neighbors (who made a comment about how they haven't laughed this much with anyone in a long time! Old friends, good times!). The joy of watching a mother deer with her newborn fawn. And the full moon.”

2. REFLECT on your own gratitude for God’s provision in your life

Who are some “old friends” you are grateful to God for? Can you a recall special memory with them that makes you smile?

3. Listen to "Old Friends” by Bill Gaither and Friends

A song celebrating God’s gift of long-time friendships

4. PRAY God’s provision-filled words over your life

Father, give us today our daily bread of friendship. You said in your Word that our “true friends are closer than our own family.” (Proverbs 18:24). Our hearts long for this. Fill us with gratitude for our “old friends” that we can laugh with and share our lives with. And we ask that you would show us your love today through our friendship with others. Amen.

5. Before you go ENJOY this true story about old friends

The record for the longest-lasting pen pal friendship in the world is 83 years according to Guiness World Records. Ruth Magee from Canada and Beryl Richmond from the United Kingdom “met” in 1939 through a school pen‑pal program. They’ve exchanged letters ever since sharing wartime updates, weddings, grandchildren, and daily joys.
